You can replace a Wix website and keep your web address. The work is a rebuild: Wix says its sites need to run on its servers, so moving to another host is not a download-and-upload job. Your text, images, forms and business features need a plan before you cancel the old site.

For a Singapore business, the useful starting point is a list of what customers do on the site today. A few pages and an enquiry form are a different project from a shop with payments, customer accounts and bookings.

Should you leave Wix at all?

If the site works, customers can use it on a phone and the bill is reasonable, staying may be the cheaper choice. Changing the words or photos rarely needs a rebuild. The Wix or custom website comparison covers that decision.

A replacement becomes worth discussing when a feature you need cannot be made to work, updating content takes too much time, or you need more control over the code and hosting. Ask a developer to check the problem before paying to replace the whole site.

What needs to move?

Scroll →
Part of the current siteWhat to check before switching
Pages and blog postsList every address, title and piece of content worth keeping
Photos and downloadsKeep original files and check that you have permission to reuse them
Web addressConfirm who owns it and who can change where it points
Business emailRecord the email provider and preserve its DNS records
Enquiry formsTest delivery to your real inbox, including spam filtering
Bookings, shop and paymentsAgree how each feature and its data will work on the replacement
Analytics and Search ConsoleKeep access so you can compare traffic before and after launch

Keep private customer data out of shared planning documents. If records need moving, agree what is needed, who can access it and how it will be transferred.

Can I keep my domain and business email?

Usually, yes. Replacing the website does not by itself require changing your domain registrar or email provider. You can point the existing web address at the new site when it is ready.

Website and email settings can sit in the same DNS account. Changing the website records carelessly can interrupt email, so the launch plan should identify which records change and which stay. Send and receive a test email after the switch.

Do not cancel Wix or transfer the domain as the first step. Check which subscriptions cover the site, domain and email, and what each cancellation would affect.

What happens to existing Google links?

Keep useful page addresses where practical. Where an address changes, map it to the closest replacement and use a permanent redirect. A service page should lead to that service, rather than sending every old link to the homepage.

Google advises expecting ranking fluctuations while a move is processed. Redirects and a sitemap help search engines understand the change; they do not guarantee unchanged rankings. Check important old links, submit the new sitemap and watch Search Console for indexing errors after launch.

A checklist before cancelling the old site

  1. Agree the replacement pages and features in writing, including anything that will not move.
  2. Save the content and original files you are entitled to reuse.
  3. Build and review the replacement on a preview address.
  4. Test forms, bookings, checkout and mobile pages as a customer would.
  5. Prepare the old-to-new address map and check domain and email access.
  6. Switch the web address, then test HTTPS, redirects, forms and email again.
  7. Keep the old account available until the content, subscriptions and launch checks are settled.

What does replacing Wix cost?

My business websites start from SGD $500. That is a starting price for a defined scope, not a price for every Wix migration. Blog archives, shops, bookings, customer data and custom features add work, so they need to be included in the quote.

Compare the build price, ongoing hosting, paid services and future updates together. The Singapore website cost guide explains the main items to ask about.

If you want help deciding, send me your current website and what you want to change. I can check whether an update or a replacement makes more sense before putting a fixed price against the agreed work.
