Services / Speed work

The site is fine. It just takes six seconds.

Making an existing site load quickly on a phone, on mobile data, without rebuilding it.

Best for
Businesses whose site works but feels slow, especially on a phone away from wifi.
What it costs
The audit is a fixed price on its own, and you can stop there and hand the findings to whoever built the site. Fixes are quoted separately once we both know what they are.
How it runs
An audit takes a few days. The fixes that follow are usually a week or two, depending on how much of the weight is images and video.

01 / Summary

The short version

Slow sites are rarely slow for interesting reasons. It is almost always images that nobody resized, fonts that block the first paint, video that autoplays at full resolution, and four analytics scripts that were added by four different people.

The work starts with measurement on a real phone on mobile data, because a site that feels instant on office wifi can take six seconds in a lift lobby. You get the numbers before and after, and if the honest finding is that the platform itself is the ceiling, you get that instead of an invoice for polishing.

02 / Deliverables

What you get

  • 01Measurement on real hardware and throttled mobile data, not just a lab score
  • 02Image and video work: correct formats, correct dimensions, poster frames that match the first frame
  • 03Font loading fixed so text paints immediately
  • 04An audit of third-party scripts, with the ones nobody can justify removed
  • 05Caching and delivery corrected at the CDN
  • 06Before and after numbers you can check yourself

03 / Process

How it runs

  1. Step 01

    Measure

Real device, throttled network. The starting numbers are written down so the finish can be compared against them.

  2. Step 02

    Report

What is costing you time, in order of how much. Including the items I do not think are worth fixing.

  3. Step 03

    Fix

The agreed items, on a preview you can check before anything reaches your visitors.

  4. Step 04

    Confirm

The same measurement again, on the same device and network shape.

05 / Questions

Common questions

01How much faster will it get?

I will not give you a number before measuring, because it depends entirely on what is wrong. A site heavy with unresized images usually improves a lot and quickly. A site that is slow because of what the server does on every request is a deeper problem, and that goes in the report, not in a conversation after the invoice.

02Do I need to rebuild the site?

Usually not. Most of this work happens without touching how the site is built. If the platform itself is the ceiling, and sometimes it is, that finding belongs in the audit so you can decide about a rebuild with the numbers in front of you.

03Can you work with the agency that built it?

Yes. Handing the report to your existing developers is a perfectly good outcome and it happens. I write the findings so someone else can act on them, not so that only I can.

04Does speed actually affect Google rankings?

It is one signal among many, and a slow site with the right content still outranks a fast site with nothing on it. The stronger argument is the one you can see in your own analytics: people leave pages that take too long, and they leave on a phone faster than on a laptop.
